At the Edge of Tomorrow: My First Encounter with the New Ferrari 849 Testarossa

n Italy’s avant-garde capital, where tradition meets audacity, as a city known for a laboratory of style. Milano has been shaping the future of fashion, design, and architecture for decades, and today has inscribed a new milestone in its history of innovation with Ferrari.

The 849 Testarossa, a name steeped in heritage yet boldly reimagined for the future. From the moment the car appeared before my eyes, its presence was outrageous, a design that is at once futuristic and timeless, sharp yet voluminous. With its sharply sculpted edges and doors deeply carved accented by a black linear allusion that cinch its voluminous body like a sleek corset, guiding the eye toward its forward-looking silhouette.

While you could say there is inspiration from the DNA of Ferrari’s 1970s Sports Prototypes. This is not a story about clinging to the past. The 849 Testarossa is Ferrari’s definitive answer to what maximum performance looks like in 2025 and represents the capabilities of the future.

The headline figures are staggering: a 1050 CV powertrain, made possible by a completely re-engineered twin-turbo V8 producing 830 CV,  with three electric motors adding 220 CV,  a new gearshift strategy, paired with a lightweight hybrid system derived directly from motorsport. It’s the most powerful Ferrari production car ever built, a hybrid berlinetta that doesn’t compromise. And it doesn’t just accelerate; it launches forward with the urgency of the largest turbocharger Ferrari has ever engineered, while not just maintaining the razor-sharp responsiveness that has defined Maranello’s engines for decades. But bringing it to next level with its brake by wire predictability. Its spring and damper setup has been fully redesigned for better control at the limits of grip. Extensive weight reduction across components means the 849 Testarossa achieves the best power-to-weight ratio ever for a Ferrari range model—delivering massive performance gains without adding a single kilo.
